North Plains Groundwater Conservation DistrictChallengeIn 2009 water marketer T. Boone Pickens challenged the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District's goal for the amount of stored groundwater that must remain in 50 years, known as Desired Future Conditions. The North Plains GCD knew it was up against a well-funded opponent in the dispute, which was a statutory petition filed with the Texas Water Development Board. Another challenge was the perception that corn producers in the District were using excessive amounts of groundwater. SolutionThe District asked LRPR to provide media and presentation training for its management and board of directors, to enable them to better educate constituents. Training included professional cameraman, lighting and video taping; instant playback and critique; and mock interviews on timely topics related to the District. LRPR helped the District develop two compelling presentations and deliver them with greater effect. View one of those presentations here. ResultsThe North Plains GCD prevailed in the statutory challenge to its DFC. In addition, the District publicized its efforts to help corn producers conserve groundwater through high-profile media interviews. |
