River Systems InstituteChallengeThe River Systems Institute of Texas State University recognized that groundwater resources in the Texas Hill Country were under growing pressures even before the worst drought on record took hold. High temperatures and low rainfall intensified the pressures, drying up water wells and streams. Some communities faced the risk of water supplies completely running out. Water users needed to understand the options for managing groundwater resources in the midst of a devastating drought and into the future. SolutionThe River Systems Institute asked Laura Raun Public Relations to create a compelling PowerPoint presentation that would educate audiences about groundwater in the Hill Country and growing pressures on the resource. The presentation needed to be informative and engaging. LPRR created a presentation that made extensive use of video, graphics, maps and charts. Residents of the Hill Country explain their dependence on groundwater and graphics simplify technical issues so that a wide range of audiences can grasp the concepts. LRPR developed Talking Points for use by one or more presenters. ResultsThe River Systems Institute plans to use the groundwater presentation as part of a public outreach campaign in 2012. The campaign will explain the growing pressures on groundwater in the Hill Country and the economic benefits of more efficient water usage. |
